On Friday, Dec. 19, Minarets High School Principal Rhonda Corippo organized the second Student Community Work Day in Yosemite Lakes Park.
Thirty-five enthusiastic students — mostly freshmen and sophomores —along with two dedicated teachers arrived ready to make a difference.
The group split into two teams:
- 14 students and one teacher headed to the Equestrian Center, working alongside Camille Anderson, Equestrian Center manager.
- 21 students and the other teacher focused on the Recreation Center, guided by Trails & Recreation Committee members Rose Mackey, Joanna Hughes, and Judy Quinn.
With supplies provided by the YLOA Maintenance Department—including gloves, trash bags, tools, and wheelbarrows—the students spent two productive hours sprucing up the Recreation Center grounds. Their efforts included:
- Sweeping leaves from walkways, steps, and picnic tables
- Picking up trash and fallen branches
- Cleaning dugouts thoroughly
- Removing doveweed (turkey mullein) around the ball field
- Filling in gopher holes
- Gathering leaves and branches into burn piles
The results were outstanding! These students truly made a positive impact on our community spaces.
Thank you, Minarets High School, from YLP and the Trails & Recreation Committee!
