Six high school girls’ golf teams took over YLP Golf Course on Wednesday for tournament play, spreading out all over the course on a gorgeous September afternoon.

“The girls really enjoyed the golf course, it was a tough challenge — the toughest so far this year,” mostly because of the narrow fairways, said Rusty Oetinger, coach of the Yosemite High School team.

With six teams competing, host YHS finished second in the tournament behind Chowchilla.

“We played a modified Stableford system, Chowchilla had 135 points and we had 105 points. Then Sierra (High) had 75 points — they were the only ones who fielded full teams.”

The YHS team of eight players is part of the North Sierra League, and has been a powerhouse, winning league championships 13 years in a row.

“We had a couple standouts — Meagan Rich, who did really well, she’s grown up at the YLP golf course” and Trinity Curtis, who had 31 points for the tournament.

It won’t be the last time we’ll have the girls playing here, he said: “We’ll be back for practice.”
